Applications are now open for the 2026 Kicking Goals Scholarship!

The Kicking Goals Scholarship supports a young person with disability to take their next step towards further education, training or employment through financial assistance, encouragement and mentoring.
The scholarship was established by John Hughes, a Board Director of Barossa Enterprises, who has mild cerebral palsy and brings a first-hand understanding of some of the barriers people with disability can face when pursuing education and entering the workforce. John also provides valuable mentorship to the scholarship recipient.
The 2025 recipient, Zara Stewart (pictured), has Usher syndrome, a rare genetic condition affecting both hearing and vision. Zara shared in her application:
“For a long time I refused to think about the future because I thought it would be a waste of time because a ‘DeafBlind’ girl can’t achieve anything. After meeting a group of people like me, I realised I can do many things and that my disability shouldn’t stop me. I really want to go to Uni and study sociology to eventually become an advocate for women and people with disabilities.”
On receiving the scholarship, Zara said it meant she no longer had to worry about the cost of school resources and would have support as she figured out her future.
